The Berlin-based record label Voitax is gearing up for a notable release as MXC’s highly anticipated EP, ‘Tik Tik,’ hits the scene. This collaboration marks the fusion of Maroki and Coralie’s unique musical perspectives, cast during the challenges of a world in lockdown.

MXC’s EP, ‘Tik Tik’, is a testament to creative resilience, presenting a sonic journey through uncharted territories of drum and bass. Crafted meticulously in two separate studios during a year marked by isolation and introspection, the EP showcases MXC’s versatile artistry. From the repurposed grime breakbeat hybrid of ‘Tik Tik’ to the relentless industrial chug of ‘Swarm’ and the delicate balance between IDM and club-focused broken drum & bass in ‘Aiven’ and ‘Crabby,’ each track captivates with intricate complexity. The EP culminates in the IDM exploration of ‘PS,’ where Maroki’s vocals intertwine with synths, creating a poignant finale that leaves a lasting imprint on listeners.

Amidst the global pandemic, MXC, consisting of Maroki and Coralie, forged a digital connection to push the boundaries of their sound. Walking a tightrope between introspective club music and avant-garde experimentation, MXC transcends genre limitations with a distinctive sound. Despite never physically sharing the same space, Maroki and Coralie work separately to craft their individual parts, preserving the sanctity of their creative flow. This unorthodox approach yields a musical tapestry defying convention and explanation, encapsulating MXC’s collective vision in an uncondensed format. Inspired by dimly lit clubs and the uncharted territories of sound design, MXC explores shadows, drawing from grime, acid, psy, and UK bass to infuse their productions with grit and intensity. Their sonic tapestries glide between genres, moods, and sounds, leaving listeners enraptured and craving more.

Hailing from a fashion design background and moonlighting as a visual artist, this Chen Kai-en’s work is marked by a handmade aesthetic, collage elements, repeated patterns, and a fusion of colors and textures. Inspired by everyday landscapes, particularly in local Taiwanese communities, the artist delves into the unconventional charm of “Taiwanese character” and life’s unpredictability. Through a creative journey deeply connected to personal cultural experiences, each meticulously crafted fabric and collage piece reflects the artist’s profound connection to culture, life moments, and text, making this venture a unique expression of life, culture, and identity.
